The WBC have officially ordered that their middleweight champion Miguel
Cotto defend his newly won title against the winner of October’s
middleweight clash between IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady ‘GGG’
Golovkin and Marco Antonio Rubio.
This is a good call from the WBC as Cotto is not seen as a real
middleweight. He won the title off of a injury prone and past his prime
Sergio Martinez. Rubio currently holds the WBC interim title which means
this title will be on the line in his fight against Golovkin also so if
Golovkin wins he will become Cotto’s mandatory challenger
